Year in year out, people migrate between towns, villages, cities and countries in search of better job opportunities, schools, marital purposes and many others. The movement of these persons necessitates them to get a new home to rent/buy. The provision of adequate housing protects people from myriad vulnerabilities. First, adequate housing protects people against floods and associated stagnant water, in which breeds mosquitoes and other insects. A sound mind will produce quality output.
But then, the search for vacant houses comes with a lot of stress. This is due to inadequate information about vacant houses, poorly planned towns, huge cost from agents and agencies and presence of scams.
At Digital Renter, we identified this problem and are using technology to solve it. We are gathering, processing and providing adequate, timely and up-to-date information about vacant houses/lands to help make the search process be less stressful.
To solve the problem of navigation caused by poor town planning, we are building a custom map(DR-Map) with added points and direction not included in the general google maps and the rest. This map shows a searcher the exact location of the house and gives him/her routes which he/she can use to reach the house. Interestingly, it incorporates a virtual tour guide on the map that gives adequate directions to ensure the searcher can find the house without missing tracks.
These innovation reduces the man power needed to show a searcher where a house is found(conventional platforms needs a human) and thereby reducing the cost born by the searcher.
This is the first of its kind in Cameroon and the map will not only help in real estate but also in delivery of food, distribution and administration of vaccines, enforcement of law and order, navigation of parcels and many more, only using ones mobile phone.
